This form was part of a series that was fired four different times. Two of the last three firings climbed to over 2260 degrees fahrenheit in two separate wood fire-kilns. The first wood firing was completed in my "little leprechaun" barrel arch kiln in early November, 2021 during the first sizeable wet, heavy, snowfall of the year. The pieces were then re-fired in early December in our portable wood-fired kiln at FireArts South Bend, Indiana. Then, a series of decals were custom made and applied similar to those on model cars and airplanes. The special ceramic decal paper and printing process is made to both survive over 2200 degree temperatures as well as be food-safe for everyday use in the dishwasher, pre-heated oven and microwave. The images seen here are printed via laser jet printer and the red and black iron oxide is burned into the surface of the pottery.
The single stem flower vases were fired three times (bisque, wood and decal) for the finish seen here. All my work is one of a kind and made from start to finish by me.
This particular vase weighs 1/2 pound empty and holds 3 fluid ounces of water.
