Wood Fired Salt Glazed Vase with White Stoneware Slip texture atop Brown Stoneware Clay

This is one of a series of vases that were fired in my barrel arch, woodfired kiln in early December, 2022. This was a 20 hour firing that achieved about 2300 degrees Fahrenheit.
This floral vase was thrown on the wheel and then when halfway (leatherhard) dry I added a cool whip consistency white stoneware slip in a diagonal pattern to create color contrast and a low relief surface texture. The foot features a herringbone pattern that was created by pulling a coil spring wire similar to a ball point pen spring to achieve the zig zag linear surface texture. All of my pottery is pre-filled to check for leaks and this vase checks in at holding 32 fluid ounces. Enjoy!
