This piece fired in my barrel arch, woodfired kiln in early December, 2022. This was a 20-hour firing that achieved about 2300 degrees Fahrenheit.
This series of forms were later refired in a natural gas kiln to flux out the salt and wood ash to add depth of color from the original wood firing. Next, I added a collage of decal images for contrast. This was inspired by the work of American Pop Artist James Rosenquist. I've been fascinated with line art and blueprint images, especially those that involve racing be it bicycle or auto racing.
This fourth firing of this mug was to burn in the red and black iron oxide that makes up the decal image. This process was accomplished via heating the kiln slowly to about 1870 fahrenheit in about 12 hours climb.
The interior surface was painted/dipped with a food safe glaze for daily use in your kitchen, enjoy!
