Stoneware Vases set of 3

This group of three small vases were made on the advisement of a career potter as a means of glaze tests. They are also created as a form of self-teaching the various ways of throwing dynamic profile forms. The group of three pictured here were fired in one of several of the firings in my electric kilns at my home studio. Some of the vessels were created with brown stoneware as well as a porcelaineous stoneware known by potters as "B-Mix". This white clay body was popularized by clay craftsmen Steven Hill and Tom Coleman.
I add these small vases to fill the gaps on kiln shelves in order to create more of an even thermal mass during the firing.
This particular group of three small vases reference my interest in indigenous North and Central American pottery vessel shapes combined with a variety of rally stripes often used on racing vehicles.
This group of three vessels can easily be used as decorative pottery, or as toothpick holders. I even had an elderly lady once tell me that they would make great "stash pots".
Each of these pieces range in size from 2 to 3 inches tall and 2 1/4 to 3 inches wide. Each of these forms were made from 1/4 of a pound of clay. Enjoy them as display pieces or use as a "go to" authentic, handmade gift for the holidays.
